Certain medications can interfere with the results of your MRI scan or create image distortions. These can include sedatives, painkillers, and those containing gadolinium or metals.
Contrast MRI and Medications:
If your MRI at iVIE Screening Center involves a contrast agent, you may need to stop using certain medications. This is because they can interact with the contrast dye.
Your Health Condition:
Your particular health condition and the reason for your MRI can also play a part in this decision. For instance, if you have a heart condition and are on medication for it, it might not be safe to stop taking it suddenly.
Contrast and Non-Contrast MRIs at iVIE:
For MRIs involving contrast, your doctor will provide instructions on discontinuing any interfering medications. If you’re having a non-contrast MRI at our center, you can usually continue taking your prescribed medication as normal.
Specific Medications to Consider:
Blood thinners can affect MRI results, so your doctor may advise stopping them a few days before the scan.
Effective Communication at iVIE Screening Center:
It’s essential to inform your specialist at iVIE about any current medications you’re taking. This includes prescription drugs, over-the-counter remedies, vitamins, and supplements. We’ll then provide specific instructions based on your health situation.
The duration of an MRI scan at our center can range from 15 to 90 minutes, depending on several factors. These include the type of scan being performed, the size and specific body region being examined, and whether contrast material is being used. For instance, scans of smaller body parts like the hand or foot may take 15-30 minutes, while more comprehensive scans of larger areas like the brain, spine, or abdomen may extend to 60-90 minutes or more.
During the procedure, our trained professionals will guide you to stay as still as possible to ensure accurate and clear images. In cases where patients may find it difficult to remain still, such as children or individuals with claustrophobia, we offer comforting options to ensure patient comfort while extending the overall procedure time.
While the exact timing of your MRI scan can vary based on several factors and the specific examination being performed, we at iVIE MRI Screening Center aim to provide you with timely and accurate diagnostics. It’s always wise to inquire about the expected duration of your specific MRI scan and any specific instructions to follow during the procedure.
You will be taken into a separate area before entering the MRI suite at the iVIE MRI Screening Center. You will be required to remove all metal objects, including jewelry, watches, glasses, and clothing with metal threads, zippers, or buttons. These items can interfere with the MRI machine’s magnetic field and potentially compromise the quality of your images. A locker will be provided for secure storage of your personal belongings, and you may need to wear a hospital gown during the scan.
The radiographer from our iVIE team will then explain the MRI procedure, addressing any questions or concerns you may have. The radiographer will provide clear instructions to guide you through the procedure.
Our MRI room houses a tube-like machine at its center. You will be asked to lie down on a movable scanning bed that slides into the MRI machine. Our technologist will position you according to the specific imaging protocol ordered by your physician, ensuring your comfort with pillows and blankets.
Our technologist will then operate the MRI machine from an adjoining room, monitoring you via a two-way intercom and video camera.
Once the scan is complete, our radiographer will help you off the table. You can then get dressed, collect your belongings, and leave the iVIE MRI suite.
Results from the MRI scan at iVIE MRI Screening Center are not immediately available. They are analyzed by a radiologist who will send a report to your doctor within one to two weeks.
Remember to arrange for someone to drive you home after the scan, especially if you’ve been given a sedative to help you relax, as this can impair your ability to drive safely. Your safety and comfort are our priority at the iVIE MRI Screening Center.
For some specific cases, our professional staff may ask you to hold your breath for a few seconds to minimize chest movement during the scanning process.
The duration of the MRI scan can range from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the area being scanned. Throughout the entire process, communication with the MRI technologist at iVIE MRI Screening Center is possible via an intercom system. If you experience any discomfort or need a short break, they can assist you accordingly, prioritizing your comfort during the scan.
Staying perfectly immobile during an MRI scan at the iVIE MRI Screening Center is a fundamental requirement. This ensures the capture of clear and accurate images, which are critical for accurate diagnosis. Our technologists will guide you throughout the process, ensuring your comfort and the quality of the scan.
During the MRI scan, it’s important to remain as still as possible to avoid blurring the images. Any movement, even slight, can affect the clarity of the scan, making it harder for the radiologist to make an accurate diagnosis. While this may feel challenging, our skilled technologists at iVIE MRI Screening Center will ensure you are well-prepared and supported throughout the process.
Our dedicated team will provide clear instructions and offer reassurance to help you stay comfortable and still during the scan. Additionally, the enclosed space of the MRI machine might feel a bit tight, but you will have a call button and ongoing communication with the technologist to address any concerns you might have.
